ARTIST'S BIOGRAPHY Close this window

Nancy Barry-Jansson was born and raised in Western Upstate New York, near Lake Ontario, where she grew up drawing and painting since she was old enough to grasp a pencil.
Growing up in the country with its ample open space had a profound affect on her creative efforts.

A year after graduating with a Bachelors of Fine Art from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Barry-Jansson moved to the San Francisco Bay area. She began working in mortgage lending and for hi-tech companies in Silicon Valley. Self-employed since 1994, she has been creating custom illustrations for presentations and webcasts since mid-1991. When not working commerically for her hi-tech clients, she spends every opportunity exploring the beautiful trails and documenting her inspiration through art.

Ms. Barry-Jansson is a member of the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society and the Los Gatos Art Association. In 2004, Nancy began teaching fine art drawing and painting classes in Cupertino, and in the fall of 2004 will begin teaching drawing at Hakone Gardens in Saratoga.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I'm continually awed by the beauty of nature, and it's an obvious source of inspiration for me. Color, in particular, inspires me and watercolor is the perfect media with its unexpected flow of colors that never cease to surprise. I also enjoy drawing, acrylics, and other creative media. I hope those viewing my work can feel the joy I experience while creating!

Having a place to retreat from this hectic environment is so important and vital for our own inner peace. Organizations that foster this resource in our community deserve all the support we can give them. Without the open spaces and beauty that surrounds us, life in this valley would be unbearable. I'm proud to use my talent and skills to help such a worthwhile cause.
