Celebrating
Wilderness and Wildlife:
Artists for Open Space Exhibit at the Lindsay Wildlife Museum
CUPERTINO,
CALIFORNIA-FEBRUARY 14, 2003. From May 24 - July 13, 2003,
Artists for Open Space will be exhibiting at the Lindsay Wildlife
Museum in Walnut Creek, California. The artists will be present during
the opening reception on Saturday, June 7th, where there will be special
activities for children. For this show, 25% of sales will directly
benefit the Lindsay Wildlife Museum.
Lindsay Wildlife Museum is a place where people connect with wildlife
and learn about the natural world. The museum's goal is to educate
people about their impact on California's wildlife, so that they may
make informed choices about how their everyday behavior affects the
wild animals and their habitats. The 8,000 square-foot exhibit hall
is filled with over 50 species of live, non-releasable native wild
animals, a learning theatre and a discovery room with hands-on opportunities
for children.
"We work with wildlife to inspire responsibility and respect the world
we share," explains museum spokesperson Sherrill Cook. "The museum
is proud to exhibit the inspirational artwork by Artists for Open
Space that shares a similar goal." For directions to Lindsay Wildlife
Museum, or more information about their programs, visit their website
at www.wildlife-museum.org,
or call 925-935-1978.
Artists for Open Space is a group of nature-inspired Bay Area artists
who donate substantial percentage of art sales to non-profit organizations
that acquire, preserve, and maintain Open Space for all to enjoy.
"The Lindsay Wildlife Museum approached us in late 2001 about exhibiting,"
says Nancy Barry-Jansson, who founded the artist group in 2001, "We
feel it's an honor to join forces with a museum of this caliber to
celebrate the importance of wilderness and wildlife."
"We feel so honored and privileged to have a show at the Lindsay Wildlife
Museum!" explains Jean Warren, one of the seven artists in the group.
"The museum has been a part of my children's lives growing up in the
East Bay. And now with our children grown, they bring their children
there to become inspired by the animals. Through the years, as I have
seen the Bay Area grow and expand, I find the need for preserving
our wildlands even more important, for the animals' habitat as well
as our own sanity! Isn't this what we need in our busy lives-place
to go to reflect, meditate and experience the beauty that is California?
I'm proud to know that a percentage of art sales from this show will
go directly to the Lindsay Wildlife Museum to further benefit their
important work."
Artists for Open Space was formed in 2001 by seven San Francisco Bay
Area artists, including Nancy Barry-Jansson, JoAnne Horsfall Beasley,
Elaine Frenett, Linda Tapscott, Jean Warren, Nancy Wulff, and Floy
Zittin. Collectively the group has donated more than $1,000 from the
sale of their art. For more information about Artists for Open Space,
